The world around us in the chaos; with terrorist killing, ISIS threats, Nigeria massacre, and domestic crime on the rise. The world’s situation can be very distracting and trying not thinking about it does not help. How does one not think about it and be considered a caring person? When someone on the job mentions “hey did you hear about…” what do you say? Yeah, I heard about it and go back to drinking your coffee or No, I haven’t and seem unconcerned? It can be a dilemma. Do we go about living our lives happily as planned why the world seems to be imploding? Another concerning could be how much should you get involved? Should you march with the protestors seeking justice for police behavior? should you write the government about lack of jobs, funding for the poor, or should you write Congress about the US lack of intervention in Nigeria? There is also an option to do nothing. Does it make you feel guilty by doing nothing? Or do you feel bad for not feeling guilty? It’s hard but what I do know is that when there is chaos around us whatever decision you make you need to make it will a clear mind. What do I mean a clear mind? One that is not cluttered by anger, hatred, revenge, or radicalism. These emotions will not allow you to make a good decision and you actions will be regrettable. These steps will help you remain calm in chaos.
1. Write down your feelings: writing your feelings will help you express your emotions on paper and can be cathartic.
2. Pray/Mediate: I have used this in many other posts and it’s my favorite because I know pray changes things and meditation it a great stress reliever.
3. Determine Action to be Taken: Once you have wrote down your feelings, prayed or meditated about it determine what action you would like to take.
4. Plan your course of action: Once you have determined you would like to get involved with a particular movement, do the research, reach out the organizers, and actively participate.
5. Evaluate: How do you feel now? Are you feeling better? Has some or all the steps helped you remain calm and centered in a world full of chaos? If you need additional assistance you should speak with your doctor, Psychiatrist, or a Psychologist that can help you find ways to cope during a difficult time.
Reply with how you are remaining calm in the midst of chaos, your answers could help someone.
