I have been feeling anxious the last couple of days because I have been busy on multiple projects. I have always taken pride in my ability to multi-task and this week hasn’t been any different. I am finishing my Master’s degree and the ideal of writing my thesis sends my stomach into knots. I have recently started a blog (almost 4 months) and want to display my best work ever as an (non-published) inspirational writer and poet. I think you get the picture; I have numerous things going on simultaneously and find myself at times feeling overwhelmed. I have used yoga and deep breathing in the past to relieve stress, increase flexibility, and bring an overall feeling of relaxation. I have to admit my stress relieving practices took a back seat to my myriad of must do’s. A friend helped to remind me to take action over my anxiety and put my stress relieving practices back in place daily. She encouraged me to find other activities I like to help alleviate stress. This is what I have learned in the process that may help you if you are feeling anxious and have a crazy to-do-list like me.
1. Take one day at a time: Prioritize for the most important or time-sensitive activities and set aside time for everything else. Remember there is only 24 hours in a day, do your best tomorrow is another day.
2. Don’t take on too much: If you have taken on so many projects that you haven’t seen the top of your desk in a week you are probably doing too much. It’s ok to say no from time to time. Keep your entire project and deadlines visible and when you finished a project then accept new one.
3. Practice stress relieving: Stress is a part of life and hard to totally alleviate. There are certain stress relievers like taking a walk, bath, yoga, and meditation that can help relieve stress. Remember it’s important to have time for friends, family, and yourself which are the best stress relievers.
How have you taken action over anxiety?
Please check with your physician if you are not able to relieve stress and before you start any type of exercise program.
